Introduction
Harold
Pinter born in 1930, English play Wright known for his so called comedies of
menace which humorously and cynically depict people attempting to as they react
to an invasion or threat of an invasion of their lives. He is also noted for
his unique use of dialogue, which exposes his character’s alienation from each
other and explores the layers of meaning produced by pauses and silence. In
2005 Pinter was awarded by the Nobel Prize in literature.
Harold
Pinter was born in hackney a working class neighborhood in London’s East end
the son of a tailor. Both of his parents where Jewish born in England. As a
child Pinter got on well with his but didn’t get on well with his father, who
was strong disciplinarian. On the outbreak of world war two Pinter was
evacuated from the city to Cornwall to be wrenched

about Absurdism
Absurdism
is a philosophy stating that the efforts of humanity to find meaning in the
universe will ultimately fail (and hence are absurd) because no such meaning
exists at least in relation to humanity the word Absurd in this context does
not mean’ logically impossible”, but rather ‘’humanly impossible’ ’Absurdisum
is related to existentialism and nihilism, though should not be confused with either.
Absurdism has concept has its roots in the 19th century Danish philosopher Soren
Kierkegaard. Absurdism was a belief system was born of the of the
Existentialist movement when the French philosopher and the writer Albert Camus
broke from that philosophical line of thought and published his manuscript the
myth of Sisyphus. After month the world war two provided a social environment
that stimulated absurdist views and allowed for their popular development
especially in divested country of France.
In
this play Harold Pinter reflects his own life. Because his personal experiences
are connected with this play. When he was live in America and he passing from
the British colony. at that time Christian people are harries a lot as a Jew so in this play “birthday party” Standly as a protagonist and antagonist of
Mc cann and Goldberg. And they both are constantly ask the questioning this
play asking and telling is shows power and lower. so in this play question ask
by Mc cann and Goldberg. so they are in power position and Standly we can say that
lower position.
So
this experience was cryptic and puzzling as a child he internalized experience
and comedy of menace plays whittle role in this play. Because constant threatening
experience was going on throughout the play. And in the apprehension was threat
to life. And Pinter referred also conscription a compulsory military service
and also ready to go for prison. When he go to the court at that time he go
with the toothbrush and toothpaste. his absurdity of military service behind a appropriate
reason when he was a child world war two was going on voice of plane was the threatening
experience for the Pinter.
“Plight of an Artist”
Stanley
Webber as an protagonist he live as an pain guest house of Meg Boles and Petey
Boles. In this play he was an Artist as a piano player he lives in Meg and Piety’s
boarding house. in this play no information was given about Stanley’s past so
the past of Standly Webber is also mysterious and throughout the play his
constant feelings of apprehension. When the play was start his life was aloof
from the society and he was kind of hiding from himself house of Meg and Petey.
In whole play very good symbolism uses by Pinter and through the play Stanley’s
charact`er was so depressed. In the play
Pinter uses very good symbolism like,
1. Mirror
2. Windows and Door
3. Questions and Answers
4. Characterization of woman
5. Spectacle
6. Game blind man’s bluff
7. Toy drum.
All
things are uses as symbolism. In my topic “The plight of an Artist” I described
symbol of mirror, spectacle, blind man’s bluff and toy drum. The symbol of
mirror is itself shows our image but not real image.it shows only illusion.
Mirror was a symbol of society when we stend on society never say a true image
they say a kind of illusion. And second symbol of spectacle was a main symbol
in this play because spectacle represents the perspective of an artist. Sometime
the society may have some .problem so they do not like to artist who live in
our society some time the whole society they do not have any problem with the
artist or his work but most problem with power position. The artist of the
society they called necked truth and the truth was connected with power
position so power don’t like image so the end of the play standby‘s spectacle
are broken by MC Cann. And without spectacle staidly does not able to see.so in
contemporary society power don’t like to truth because the truth was harmful
for their position. So the Joseph Anton lives as a Conrad Chekhov. And another
artist Salman Rushdie’s work satanic verses was problematic for the power. So
Indian government announced the book was harmful for the society. Salman
RaSaudi'semove all the metaphors very first layer of the work of art he shows
reality of the society. And again Taslima Nasarin was a writer from Bangladesh
her work name of the ‘lajja’ in her book she write necked truth of the society
so her work was banded and right now she live in India.
A
one person who was very good piano player. But he hide from the society so it
represent the game of blind man’s bluff how a society force fully make a celebrity
a one person and behind on it very prominent reason and the constantly play was
move ahead perspective of Standly. One artist who run out from the society and
he hide his identity and his past was also a mestireoous and Standly say like
that about his art that ”I was play piano at once for the country once in a
city at last he say I was play piano in one concerned” . The sentence are shows
the downfall of an artist.
The
plight of an artist it means how a person was hide himself from the society and
he runs away from the society. The society at last of the play catches again
the artist. One person who runs away from the society after some time people of
society again catches the artist. At that time artist was lost his creativity.
The peace of newspaper are shows the broken personality of the stendly. Close
room and darker setting are a show the doubts reaming in readers mind and also another
interpretation is the room was a prison and steadily was a prisoner. And image
of broken drum and Meg say that it is still playing but charm of an artist are
lost somewhere. Society makes an artist like a robot. But the considered of
mind the way society like that way artist was present his art.At the end of the
play Mc cann and Goldgurge are say to Staidly that we give you new spectacle
and Standly look very good clean and tidy. But he can’t speak so it shows
artist lost his creativity. The new spectacle are now own view of Staidly the
society want to show you.
